ObjectiveTo explore the efficacy of Western medicine assisted with traditional Chinese medicine and medicated diet on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and its effect on patients′ nutritional status. MethodsA total of 90 cases of rheumatoid arthritis patients admitted to Rheumatism Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Liuzhou General Hospital of Guangxi from January 2015 to December 2017 were selected as the study objects, and randomly divided into traditional Chinese medicine-assisted group (30 cases), with traditional Chinese medicine combined with Western medicine treatment, medicated diet-assisted group (30 cases), with medicated diet combined with Western medicine treatment, and Western medicine group (30 cases), with Western medicine treatment only. The course of treatment in the three groups was 12 weeks. The efficacy, disease activity score (DAS), and nutritional indicators were compared between the three groups. ResultsAfter 12 weeks of treatment, in comparison with the Western medicine group, the traditional Chinese medicine-assisted group and the medicated diet-assisted group had a higher total effective rate, a lower DAS, and a lower body mass index (P<0.05). The body mass index and the thickness of triceps skin fold in the medicated diet-assisted group were significantly reduced. The hemoglobin level of the traditional Chinese medicine-assisted group was significantly elevated, and higher than the Western medicine group, whereas the serum albumin level of the medicated diet-assisted group was significantly increased, and higher than the Western medicine group, with statistically significant difference (P<0.05). ConclusionWestern medicine assisted with traditional Chinese medicine and medicated diet in the treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis can significantly improve the therapeutic effect, reduce the disease activity score, improve the patients′ symptoms, signs and nutritional status.
